December, 2009 Lake Hayes Childcare Developments Ltd has plans for a childcare centre at Lakes Hayes, near Frankton, that will cater for up to 50 children.Resource consent is being sought to build the centre at Lake Hayes Estate, near Queenstown. The new centre would be built on a key site in Onslow Rd, opposite the proposed Lake Hayes Estate commercial area, owned by the Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust. Lake Hayes Childcare Developments Ltd spokesperson Mike Smith said the project had been driven by demand for childcare in the area. "We believe, that because of the number of young families living at Lake Hayes Estate, a facility like this will be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood and we have had unqualified support from neighbours of the site and the local community in general." The project had been in the planning and design phase for the past 12 months and the centre is expected to be up and running by the middle of next year, operating Monday to Friday from 7.30am until 6pm, for children aged 6 months to 5 years. The central site meant many families would be able to walk to the childcare centre, which would link with the Lake Hayes Estate commercial area. There would also be a pedestrian link to the reserve adjoining the site.
