January, 2010 Almost 40 employers registered Queenstown hospitality jobs under Immigration New Zealand's new holiday employment pilot for overseas workers, registering a total of 145 summer jobs. The pilot scheme was launched in December and would run until the end of next month and an Immigration New Zealand spokeswoman said its success would then be evaluated and the results made public. In the meantime, she was unable to confirm just how many overseas holidaymakers had secured seasonal summer jobs through the programme because workers and employers both had to register their interest online, making contact individually through the newzealandnow.govt.nz website. The spokeswoman said the job opportunities were emailed to 1136 people who had registered a specific interest in working in Queenstown. About 111ntsG10 percentnte of those people actually clicked through to visit the New Zealand/Queenstown employer page, she said. More than 300 Queenstown employers were invited to take part in the scheme. A quick telephone survey of several major Queenstown employers was unable to ascertain specifically whether any of their overseas summer workers had actually found them through a scheme as yet.
