Kiwi celebrity chef Josh Emett, now based in London, opens his new Queenstown restaurant on May 4 with business partner, local restaurateur Fleur Caulton.
Rata is a high end restaurant with a New Zealand flavour and opens in the Te Nuku building beside the Queenstown District Court.
Emett, who is based in London, spent 11 years working for internationally-renowned TV celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
While in the resort preparing for the opening, Emett cooked for about 100 guests at the prestigious Sir Michael Hill-owned The Hills private golf course serving up kingfish, Mount Cook salmon, local rabbit and plum chocolate fondant on the menu.
The MasterChef New Zealand judge and Caulton found the perfect site for Rata in October last year after a two year search. Hamilton-born Emett is not planning any Gordon Ramsay tricks in the kitchen and is said to love Queenstowns beauty and international flair.
Meanwhile, Emmet was also the main attraction at a fundraising event for Remarkables Primary School in Queenstown this month. The MasterChef judge hosted a cooking demonstration attended by more than 90 people at Queenstown Resort College. The even was estimated to have raised about $8000 for the school.
