QUEENSTOWN COUNCIL PLANS 10 YEARS OUT

May, 2012

A good number of residents and ratepayers are being acknowledged for engaging in the Queenstown Lakes District Council 10-Year Plan consultation process, QLDC communications manager Meaghan Miller said.

We are entering the final phase of consultation on the plan and its really great to see that people are taking the time to engage with the council over a number of issues, she said.

This month 50 people attended a presentation at Queenstown by deputy chief executive Stewart Burns on the proposed rate changes being consulted through the 10-Year Plan.

Another 20 people attended the same presentation in Wanaka with a further dozen members of the public taking the opportunity to have a cuppa with elected members and staff to talk through the issues.

The most important thing we can do is make the information available so that people are able to make an informed submission. The feedback was that people found the presentation really helpful for understanding what the council proposes in terms of changing the way it apportions rates, she said.

These are really informal sessions and a great opportunity to come and clarify issues, ask question and, if people choose, they can make a submission online, on the spot, Ms Miller said.

The 10-Year Plan is scheduled to be adopted on 26 June, she said.
