July, 2018 Queenstowns second new airport hotel, the swanky Wyndham Garden,is already attracting strong bookings, just a few months after opening its doors. The 75-room property 21 hotel rooms and 54 fully-equipped studios and apartments features a conference and meeting room which seats 60 people theatre-style or 30 in a boardroom format. The swanky new Wyndham Garden hotel lives up to its name with plenty of fresh greenery, natural wood and earthy tones. General managers Gary Hyde and Karen Barr say this has already proved popular with corporate visitors flying in for weekend meetings and small conferences. A lot of corporates say they enjoy the fact that they dont have to travel into the centre of downtown Queenstown. Its five minutes from the airport and they can come here for a weekend and leave without heading into town, says Gary. Theyre also hoping to tap into the breakfast meeting and after 5 markets, but for now theyve been rushed off their feet handling bookings. The hotels already clocked weekend occupancies of 97 percent in July, with an overall occupancy for that month sitting at about 60 percent and August following close behind. Were pretty pleased with that in light of the fact that its after our soft opening in April, and those were all online reservations, says Karen. Strong spring and summer bookings are already locked in, particularly from American and Asian tour groups. The 70-seater Franks Pantry deli café in the hotels ground floor foyer is operated by local Franks Eatery owners Victoria and Aaron Lethbridge and is the third member of the Frank's family. A bright, airy, contemporary space, Franks Pantry focuses on breakfast, brunch and lunch, using free-range, Kiwi produce and local ingredients. So far the the signature dish, Pappa Salmon and the sweet Brioche Frenchie are high on the list of favourites, but theres also the option to make-your- own homemade bagel with dozens of options. Wyndham Garden Queenstown is the global chains second hotel in Queenstown and the resorts second airport hotel. It joins the hospitality giants Ramada Hotel and Suites Queenstown Remarkables Park, which opened in 2016. The Wyndham Garden chain has about 8000 hotels worldwide. Both Queenstown hotels are owned and operated by Marsden Associates and are among the companys five Wyndham Hotel Group franchises in New Zealand, alongside properties in Auckland and Christchurch. As the fifth completed collaboration between Wyndham Hotel Group and experienced local developer Safari Group, Wyndham Garden Queenstown also follows four Ramada developments in Auckland, Albany, Christchurch and Queenstown.
