September, 2018 The $80 million-plus Queenstown Central development and its 40 retailoutlets and offices above opens on October 4, with Queenstowns first K-Mart and Mountain Warehouse also among the popular tenants. Food will be a bit focus with the launch of the developments exciting new food markets. Retail consultant Evan Harris says the markets are based on an emerging fresh food concept thats totally new for Queenstown and has only been done in a couple of cases in Auckland. Seven fresh food businesses, ranging from the popular Soul Food Organics from Wanaka and The Meat Preachers Queenstowns Zamora Meats - to Brumbys Bakery, Black and White Coffee and an Asian supermarket will grace the markets. Therell be common tables and chairs in the centre of the markets, opening through large glass sliding doors onto sunny outdoor tables. A wine and liquor store is also starring in the line-up. Its a great concept and weve gone for fresh food vegetables, meat and a bakery with options to sit down and eat, or takeaway, says Evan. Soul Food Organics owner Paul OHara, whos had a large Queenstown following trekking over the hills for many years, says he jumped at the invitation to open as part of the markets. For years Queenstown people have been asking us to open there because they need a solid supply of organics, says Paul. He will primarily be selling organic foods, with a small café focusing on lunch food like fresh juices and smoothies. Well be selling fresh produce and also organic meats and dry goods, says Paul. People are realising that diet affects their health. Theyre waking up and doing their research, opting instead for unprocessed wholefoods and organic meats. The owners of Queenstowns Zamora Meats Uruguayan Matias Mautone and Argentinian Nick Karlson will throw some feisty South American flavours and colour into the mix with their butchery-style deli-grill. Well be selling our fresh and cured meats, and our sausages, as well as turning out great food to eat in or takeaway, says Matias. Well be grilling breakfast, lunch and dinner on the open fire cooking with embers and coals that nice smoky experience. The Meat Preachers will also be offering their famous charcoal rotisserie chickens and sandwiches, for which theyve become renowned. Therell be plenty of farm gate to plate story behind the barbecue too. We source very specific types of meats and look into the wellbeing of the animals we produce, says Matias. Were really excited about it. Well be offering a blend of all the things weve learned all these days what the Kiwis want and creating that in this new place.
