January, 2019 A visitor accommodation development is proposed to help fund areforestation project on Mt Dewar Station. A 55-lot subdivision, including 43 cabins and 11 chalets for residential and visitor accommodation, is planned for the 1773-hectare site by Treespace Queenstown Ltd. There would also be a lodge with facilities for events of up to 60 people, and capable of accommodating 20 overnight guests. Treespaces resource consent application says it wants to undertake a large-scale native reforestation and ecological restoration project across Mt Dewar. It is expected the proposed activity will have significant positive effects on biodiversity, ecological values, recreational amenity and an enhancement of the landscape character. In total, it wants to plant 63,920 plants on the site. Treespace, which also wants to create an additional 19.7km of public trails, says consultation with the Department of Conservation is ongoing.
