March, 2019

A Chinese company that made headlines for backing out of a
controversial, multi-million dollar land sale last year wants to build a
hotel at Queenstowns Remarkables Park.
Qianlong Farms Ltd has lodged resource consent to build a five-storey,
182-room hotel, called Lakeview Gardens, on Red Oaks Drive, near the
Ramada and Wyndham Garden hotels.
The ground floor will also provide a cafe, restaurant, conference
facilities and retail.
A total of 54 carparks, including 24 at basement level, are proposed.
The company was behind an $8.7 million offer for Jericho Station, a
1359ha sheep and beef station in Fiordland that was owned by
Landcorp. It later withdrew its application to the Overseas Investment
Office, and the farm was sold to a Southland farmer instead.
According to the Companies register, Qianlong Farms has two directors,
Australian-based Wenchen Du, and Arrowtowns Sheng Du.
Theyve asked for the consent application to be non-notified.
Its the latest in a deluge of new Queenstown hotel proposals, including
400 rooms across two buildings on Gorge Road, and another 400-room,
two-hotel complex on the Brecon Street mini-golf course.
Theyre in addition to more than 3000 hotel rooms that, according to
council stats, are either under construction, consented but not yet
built, or in the consenting process in the resort.
