April, 2019 The new Kamana Lakehouse Hotel in Fernhill, with its 73 plush ensuiterooms and Nest Kitchen and Bar, has been fully completed and unveiled. Kamana hotel manager Mario Sandulescu says the new 105-seater Nest Kitchen and Bar, so handy to downtown Queenstown, is rapidly becoming the place to meet for a modern Mediterranean-style alfresco meal, drink of coffee. Nest seats 65 inside and another 40 outside on the large outdoor deck overlooking the lake. The bar has been cleverly designed, encased by a circular Art Deco-style bar clad in brass, accentuated by marble finished and metal accents. Marios expecting Nest to be popular with the upcoming apres ski market as well. Locals are making the most of Friday night specially-priced $12 crafted cocktails, with The Kiwi Experience, featuring New Zealand gin, Chartreuse Green and Kiwi juice, and the locals discount. Formerly of Millbrook Resort Millhouse Restaurant, Kamanas head chef Juan Pablo (JP) Aravena, has been winning favour serving up his delicious quirky-style breakfasts and dinners at the hotel in the heart of Aspen Grove residential area. Theres a big focus on tapas-style shared plates, street-style food and gourmet pizzas, with fish tacos, goats cheese and date rolls and chorizo croquettes among the favourites, as well as charcoal squid bao buns. Juan and his team are also serving up great mains and desserts. The hotels new conference and function centre was completed recently and already hosted events, including the Chamber of Commerce Business After 5 event, last month (April). It caters for up to 100 at sit-down functions like weddings and 150 for stand-up cocktail-style functions. A hotel gym and spa pool complex are part of the next stage of the development and locals will be welcome to use these, with a new craft retail outlet in the plans as well. The hotel will provide electric bikes soon too, which locals will be able to hire when available.
