Theres already keen interest from prospective tenants in Skyline
Enterprises new $26 million redevelopment of iconic downtown
Queenstown landmark OConnells Pavilion shopping mall.
Skyline Enterprises property manager Alastair Clifford says the project
has taken three years of intense planning so far and he expects both
local and international brands to take up the new tenancies. We also
believe a number of the food hall operators will be offshoots of existing
businesses in Queenstown, he says.
Developed in the mid-1980s, the four-storey, 4000sqm shopping mall
was the first city-style development of its kind for Queenstown and has
served the community well for more than 30 years. The old building
closed early last month (February) and contractors moved onto the site
in mid-February.
Each of the Pavilions four floors will be modified to retain a mix of
retail and commercial spaces, as well as keeping the ground floor food
hall.
We're delighted to be able to give Queenstown the modern, 21st
Century mall it deserves, says Alastair. This major redevelopment will
revitalize the building inside and out. The design is stunning and we're
sure this will be a focal point and also a primary shopping destination
for Queenstowners and visitors for the next 30 years, and beyond.
The striking new building has been designed by Queenstown architect
Preston Stevens and is expected to reopen for business in November,
2021.

Vehicle access to Cow Lane from Camp Street will close for most of the
construction period, however, access to lower Cow Lane will continue to
be available from Beach Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained
throughout via a container walkway.

Construction work will be confined to the hours of 7.30am to 6pm,
Monday to Saturday, with no work on Sundays or public holidays. A
comprehensive noise and vibration plan has been developed to reduce
the impact on neighbouring businesses.

The OConnells Pavilion redevelopment is Skyline Properties second
major commercial building project in central Queenstown in recent
years. In 2016, the company opened the iconic Eichardts Building on
Marine Parade complementing the areas luxury precinct.

The company is also investing more than $150 million into an upgrade of
its iconic gondola and complex on nearby Bobs Peak.
