QUEENSTOWN SHOTOVER SCHOOL EXPANDING RAPIDLY

Work began recently on the third and final stage of Queenstowns
Shotover Primary School.
Brosnan Construction has started on the earthworks for a 1428 square
metre building, running along the schools northern boundary, which
will
expand the schools capacity from 650 to 900 students.
Principal Ben Witheford says it will accommodate two-and-a-half
learning habitats  equivalent to 10 classrooms.
It will also have a less daunting space for new entrants aimed at
easing them into school life, a dedicated radio station studio and a
TV/video suite.
The project, expected to be completed by November, also includes a
new 14-space staff carpark.
Witheford says the schools rolls sitting on 510, and although its
growth
is determined by unpredictable residential development, he expects
itll take several years to reach capacity.
In other school building projects, Arrowtown Primarys in the middle of
an $11 million redevelopment to address its leaky building issues, while
an expansion of Wakatipu High School is in the final planning stages.
A primary school for up to 600 pupils at Hanleys Farm is expected to
open in 2022.
