August, 2021 The Queenstown Lakes District Council has secured a new laydown areato store plant and equipment in Industrial Place, off Gorge Road, to replace the one originally earmarked for the Gorge Road Jump Park. After discussions with Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Jim Boult, businessman Rod Drury offered to meet the cost of renting the new site to enable the bike park to remain in situ rather than move to a new site previously agreed by the council and Queenstown Mountain Bike Club. The new arrangement means the council has immediate access to a dedicated storage area that will support its ongoing infrastructure works around Queenstown. Mayor Boult thanked Mr Drury and said the outcome was a positive result for both the community and the council. We acknowledge the communitys desire to keep the jump park in its current location and Mr Drurys help in finding a solution. Its great that we have folk like Rod in our district who are prepared to make such generous contributions on behalf of the community, he said. Council Property and Infrastructure General Manager Pete Hansby said the council investigated two potential sites. We selected the one on Industrial Place because its secure, has good access and is close to other council worksites. The site is vacant and available immediately, he said. This is a good result and Id like to thank everyone involved, said Mr Hansby.
