May, 2022 A Queenstown-based realtors set up a community fund thatll provide amajor boost to local charities. Thirty percent of the fund, set up by New Zealand Sothebys International Realtys (NZSIR) local agency, will go to the Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust, to help fund community housing projects. Another 35 percent will go towards an endowment fund which will return income to the Wakatipu Community Foundation (WCF) on an ongoing basis. WCF provides grants to organisations involved in arts, culture, housing, sport, youth, education and the environment, and facilitates endowment funds. The remaining 35 percent will go to an NZSIR impact fund for distribution annually to a cause the agency nominates. NZSIR has kicked off the community fund with a $30,000 contribution. The firms also inviting its agents to contribute on a per-property-sale basis, which itll match dollar for dollar. Social responsibility is very important to us as a company, and we are thrilled to be giving something back to the Queenstown community, managing director Mark Harris says. His firm has wanted to support a charity or organisation that has a truly positive impact on local people, for some time. The housing trust and WCF both fit the bill for their incredible work in our region, he says. We are very proud supporters of that work. Sincerely grateful housing trust boss Julie Scott, whose organisation has nearly 800 households on its waiting list, says NZSIRs initiative will assist us in housing more families throughout the entire Queenstown Lakes district. WCFs Jennifer Belmont, whos also delighted, says the community fund will provide vital funding for our community groups. We also admire [NZSIRs] leadership in showing how successful businesses can work with, and help, their community. Harris adds NZSIRs investigating setting up community funds through its 17 other offices. Source: Mountain Scene
