The New Zealand Golf Open returned to The Clearwater Resort in Christchurch in November 2012 after three consecutive years at 'The Hills Golf Club', a private championship course near Queenstown. The New Zealand Golf Open is a co-santioned event with the Australian PGA Tour and European Tour.
The Hills Golf Club is a new course located near Arrowtown and is owned by well known New Zealand businessman Michael Hill.
"Queenstown has a reputation both in New Zealand and internationally as the country's leading tourist resort and I feel very honoured to live here and have the opportunity to host a golf tournament of this calibre which will showcase the region and it's attractions around the world". Mr Hill (2008)
The Hills joins other public and resort courses in the area: Queenstown Golf Course at Kelvin Heights, Frankton Golf Course, Arrowtown Golf Course, Millbrook Golf Resort, Jacks Point Golf Resort and Wanaka Golf Course. All are among the most beautiful of New Zealand golf courses. Two other golf resorts, Gibbston Valley Station at Gibbston and Parkins Bay Golf Resort at Wanaka, have been granted development consents.
