The Queenstown census is conducted once every five years. The main urban centres within the Queenstown Lakes District are Queenstown, Arrowtown, Frankton and Wanaka.
The census "Usually Resident Population" of Queenstown Lakes District totalled 22,956 as at March 2006. At that time, Queenstown Lakes District contained 0.5 percent of the usually resident population of New Zealand.
