OWNERSHIP DEMOGRAPHICS FOR QUEENSTOWN, ARROWTOWN AND WANAKA
The Queenstown Lakes District incorporates the main urban centres of Queenstown, Wanaka, Arrowtown and Frankton and the surrounding Lakes District including Glenorchy, Kingston, Lake Hayes, Gibbston, Hawea, Alberttown and Luggate settlements. As at 1 July 2008 there were 19,800 rateable properties in the Queenstown Lakes District - split as in the past at approximately two thirds in the Queenstown / Arrowtown / Wakatipu area and one third in Wanaka / Upper Clutha. (1 July 2007 was 18,800; 2006 was 17,800; 2005 was 16,800; 2004 was 15,900; 2003 was 15,100 and 2002 was 14,000). The townships of Cromwell and Alexandra are within the neighbouring Central Otago District.
Property Ownership within the Queenstown Lakes District is approximated as 50% Local/Owner Occupier, 20% Regional (Southland/Otago), 15% Rest of New Zealand and 15% International.
The geographic origin of the "International" proportion comprises approximately 50% Australian, 15% North American, 15% Asian, 10% United Kingdom, and 10% rest of the world.
